"I will build a car for the great multitude." – Henry Ford
Mr. Ford did exactly as he said. First, the Model T, and later, the legendary Model A. The latter was built with many body-style variants to serve the needs and preferences of potential buyers. So many body styles, it was hard to believe Ford lacked a Model A body for any need. But, as an article in Texas Gulf Coast Monthly noted: "In the 1920s and early 1930s, Ford plants from Chester, Penn., and Dearborn, Mich., to Cork, Ireland, and Cologne, Germany, were cranking out variants of the rugged, reliable and clearly versatile Model A by the thousands. There were sedan, coupe, roadster, and pickup variants, to name a few, and several variants of some of those - hardtops, convertibles, with windshields, without windshields."
However many Model A variations were to come, It's hard to believe Henry "Any color you want as long as it's black" Ford would likely ever have envisioned a Model A build as mechanically re-powered and cosmetically distinctive as the 1929 Model A offered here. This '29 Model A coupe in custom "Hershey's" brown over a thematically appropriate "caramel" interior has benefitted from a very appealing, comprehensive, professional re-imagining and updating. The quality of the finished product speaks for itself. The odometer reads 67,164 miles.
The exterior brown paint on the 5-window coupe's all-steel bodywork shows excellent condition overall; deep color, smooth finish, and excellent gloss. This is a custom color, and it could not have been more perfectly displayed than on this updated touch of automotive Americana. The exterior stripe includes "ghosted" "Hershey's" identification and so brings two of the country's most famous trademarks-Ford and Hershey-together. All metal bodywork (including the fenders) is free of dents or other damage. Classic Model A features-including the body lines remain largely unchanged (with the exception of the 2.5-inch chop), while features like the chrome bumpers and beautifully colorful body-side graphic-take the custom touch to another level. In the same way, the slightly modified, chrome front grille with its "29" emblem replacing the Ford script badge, and an entirely updated taillight configuration are truly unique touches on this car. (Full details of the build are shown on a document pictured in the gallery.) Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and undamaged. Twist-design, five-spoke, Billet Specialties® (15' in front, 17" in the rear) aluminum wheels are mounted with Michelin® MXV tires.
Inside, superbly executed custom touches abound. Seating and other trim is upholstered in caramel leather. The bench seat upholstery also incorporates vertically pleated inserts in a complimentary color, as well as whimsical "Hershey's Kisses" embroidery. Door panels add three-color inserts echoing the exterior graphic. A custom Lacarra® steering wheel frames a high-gloss, dark-wood dashboard beneath caramel leather padding. Standard-appearing, but updated, controls are in place. Added VDO® gauges surrounding the speedometer, a tilt steering column, the floor-mounted Gennie® shifter for the added automatic transmission), and Clarion® audio head unit with equalizer have all been beautifully integrated.
Under the center-hinged hood, a Chevy 383-cubic-inch Stroker V8 replaces the 4-cylinder Model A powerplant. The engine glistens with billet-aluminum components, "383"-embossed chrome air cleaner cover, Edelbrock® valve covers, steel-braided radiator hoses and more. The engine bay is spotlessly clean and orderly. Viewed from below, the Model A's custom chassis includes full-length dual exhaust with chrome tips, upgraded, 4-bar suspension components, 700 R4 automatic transmission, TCI® Stage-3 frame, and Ford 9-inch rear end all are focal points. Light surface rust is present on some untreated metal.
While the more than 135 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available on the GarageKeptMotors website showcase this '29 Model A in detail from every angle, including from below, we expect and encourage in-person inspections at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. Please call to arrange an appointment in advance as our showroom is not open to the public. And feel free to get in touch anytime by phone or email if you have questions.
Show or go, this custom '29 Ford Model A is sure to satisfy on both dimensions. Its next owner may have to get used to compliments and expressions of joy aplenty from any automotive enthusiast the car encounters, but that should be easy. "Wow!" is likely to be their first response.

About Garage Kept Motors
Garage Kept Motors, LLC specializes in classic and specialty online auto sales.
For our consignors, we are the only auto brokers that offer a Transparent Sale Disclosure. This means, when a car sells, we provide an exact copy of the Bill of Sale. We do this so our clients know exactly who bought their car, where it went, and most importantly how much we sold it for. No funny business.
For our buyers, our vehicles are listed on the Internet, with over 100 photos, including undercarriage pictures, and walk-around videos of the vehicles running plus a narrative-style write-up of the cars history and features. Our international exposure allows us to sell cars across the globe, and we sell a majority of them out of state and overseas. We deliver honesty and consistency in our photos and descriptions, a “no surprise” approach, so buyers, both near and far, can invest with confidence sight unseen. We are not a gallery. Vehicles can be seen locally by appointment as potential buyers are given our undivided attention.
