    Description

KITTY CUCUMBER “TAKING AIM” ELLIE PLAYING CROQUET VICTORIAN GARDEN PARTY PORCELAIN FIGURINE.  The Kitty Cucumber Collection evolved from a favorite cat that artist Mary Lillemoe had as a child- a cat born, of all places, in a cucumber patch.  Many years later, upon first seeing Mary's whimsical sketches of her now famous childhood pet, Mary's 5-year-old daughter Annie proudly announced, "That's Kitty Cucumber!"  And with that out- of- the mouths-of babes exclamation, a collection was born. Schmid was an international leader in fine gifts and collectibles, and transformed Kitty and her friends into finely handcrafted, hand painted collectibles.  A Victorian garden party - What nicer way to spend a lovely Springtime Day than playing croquet!  Croquet is a sport that involves hitting wooden or plastic balls with a mallet through hoops (often called "wickets" in the United States) embedded in a grass playing court.  Garden croquet is widely played in the UK.  This auction is for the Kitty Cucumber figurine “Taking AIM” from the Victorian Garden Party Series.  Ellie, the good friend of Kitty Cucumber, is the demure peacemaker of the group.  She is dressed in a cute Victorian style outfit-long puffy dress, ruffled collar, and period style oversized hat tied under the chin.  The hat has a black bow.  Ellie is a black and white cat with bright eyes and white whiskers.  Ellie is posed holding a mallet-ready to hit a ball through 2 wickets.  Realistic looking indeed.  It measures 3-1/2” high.  Underneath the figurine it has the Kitty Cucumber trademark with © 1992, B. Shackman, Schmid.  In addition, it has a Schmid sticker.  It is Schmid #31228. Although vintage, it has never been displayed.  It is from a pet and smoke-free home.  What a treasure for the Kitty Cucumber collector.  Kitty Cucumber porcelain collectibles withstand the test of time, with avid collectors all over the globe.  Great gift for Kitty Cucumber collectors, or any cat enthusiast.  Bring a smile to someone in quarantine, and have this surprise gift sent to them.  No box.
