Modified Coiled Ceremonial or Wedding Basket by Noted Navajo Artist Bessie Holiday.
This
very large
used coiled basket is a variation of a Navajo ceremonial basket with two "ears" at the top of each of the 13 black points
. It features a 6 point star with spirit release in the center
and measures approximately
17 1/2" in diameter x 4" deep
. This basket is in
excellent condition
and the
rim has a herringbone finish.
Bessie is well known for her ceremonial baskets-sometimes called
"Wedding Baskets
".
We purchased this basket from a
retired attorney who worked for the Dine Nation in Monument Valley and who bought it directly from Elsie 4-5 years ago
